Chrysler VIN decoder

Paste the 17-character VIN from your Chrysler minivan or sedan to see how Stellantis registered it with NHTSA: model year, model, body style, engine, drivetrain and assembly plant, plus every safety recall NHTSA lists for that year and model. Free, no signup.

0/17

Enter all 17 characters. The decoder reads the make, model and year from the whole VIN, not just the first three characters.

Chrysler WMI codes

The first three characters of a VIN are the World Manufacturer Identifier. NHTSA lists 34 of them for Chrysler: each code below is one whose NHTSA record lists Chrysler as a make. Some of these codes are also listed for Dodge, Ram, Jeep and Fiat, so the first three characters alone do not always tell you a vehicle is a Chrysler. They were issued across 3 countries: Canada, Mexico and United States (USA). A few carry no stated country. They span 5 vehicle types, listed separately below.

The country shown is where the identifier was issued, which usually but not always matches where a given vehicle was assembled. The eleventh character identifies the specific plant. A single WMI can cover more than one vehicle type, so some codes appear in more than one table.

Common Chrysler models

Some of the Chrysler models you are most likely to be decoding, as NHTSA spells them. Recall searches by year, make and model need that exact spelling.

  • Pacifica — Some NHTSA recall records list the plug-in hybrid separately as Pacifica Hybrid.
  • Voyager
  • 300
  • Grand Caravan

Notable Chrysler recalls since 2018

A few of the largest or most serious recent safety recalls covering Chrysler vehicles. They are examples, not a complete list: a single model year can have a dozen campaigns. A recall on the model does not mean it is still open on a particular car, so check the VIN at NHTSA's recall lookup, or see every campaign for a year and model with our recall lookup.

Air bags: side curtain pressure

Vehicles: Certain 2022-2026 Chrysler Pacifica and Voyager vehicles.

The side curtain air bags may not hold enough pressure, raising the risk that an occupant is thrown from the vehicle and injured in a crash. NHTSA's record says these vehicles do not meet the federal ejection mitigation standard.

Dealers replace the side curtain air bags as needed at no charge. This campaign replaces two earlier ones, 25V-302 and 25V-573, and vehicles repaired under those need the new repair.

NHTSA campaign 26V189000, reported 26 March 2026, about 293,264 vehicles across every brand in the campaign.

Air bags: side curtain inflators

Vehicles: Certain 2018-2021 Chrysler 300 vehicles; the campaign also covers the Dodge Charger.

The side curtain air bag inflators may rupture because of a manufacturing defect, sending sharp metal fragments toward occupants. That can cause serious injury or death.

Dealers replace both side curtain air bags at no charge.

NHTSA campaign 24V198000, reported 14 March 2024, about 284,982 vehicles across every brand in the campaign.

Electrical system: manual park release plug

Vehicles: Certain 2017-2018 Chrysler Pacifica vehicles.

The plug covering the manual park release can be removed without a tool. If the release is engaged by accident, the minivan can roll away and strike someone or crash. NHTSA's record says these vehicles do not meet the federal theft protection standard.

Dealers replace the plug at no charge.

NHTSA campaign 18V395000, reported 14 June 2018, about 240,242 vehicles across every brand in the campaign.

Electrical system: battery ground connection

Vehicles: Certain 2017-2019 Chrysler Pacifica vehicles with engine stop/start.

A loose battery ground connection can cause an intermittent loss of power steering assist or a stall, raising the risk of a crash.

Dealers inspect and clean the ground contact surfaces and reassemble the connection at no charge.

NHTSA campaign 19V348000, reported 9 May 2019, about 198,731 vehicles across every brand in the campaign.

Reading the rest of a Chrysler VIN

Characters 4 to 8 describe the vehicle — model, body style, engine, restraint system. Chrysler assigns that scheme itself and files it with NHTSA, which is why decoding requires a lookup rather than arithmetic. Character 9 is the check digit, character 10 is the model year, and character 11 is the assembly plant.

See how to read a VIN for the full breakdown, or model year codes for the position 10 table.

Where the VIN is on a Chrysler

On the driver's side dashboard, readable through the windshield, and on a sticker in the driver's door jamb. The door jamb sticker usually carries a scannable barcode, which is more reliable than transcribing 17 characters by eye — the decoder can read it with your camera.
