Notable Lexus recalls since 2018

A few of the largest or most serious recent safety recalls covering Lexus vehicles. They are examples, not a complete list: a single model year can have a dozen campaigns. A recall on the model does not mean it is still open on a particular car, so check the VIN at NHTSA's recall lookup, or see every campaign for a year and model with our recall lookup.

Fuel system: fuel pump

Vehicles: Certain 2013-2019 Toyota and Lexus vehicles. Lexus models listed include ES 350, GS 300, GS 350, GX 460, IS 300, IS 350, IS F, LS 460, LS 500, LX 570, RC 300, RC 350 and RX 350 (years vary by model).

The low-pressure fuel pump inside the fuel tank can fail. If it does, the engine can stall while the vehicle is moving, raising the risk of a crash.

Dealers replace the fuel pump at no charge; a later campaign, 20V682000, expands this recall to more vehicles.

Back over prevention: rearview camera display

Vehicles: Certain 2022-2026 Toyota, Lexus and Subaru Solterra vehicles with a Panoramic View Monitor. Lexus models listed include ES, GX, LC, LS, LX, NX, RX, RZ and TX, including hybrid and plug-in versions (years vary by model).

A software error can make the rearview camera image freeze or go blank when the vehicle is in reverse, so the vehicles do not meet federal rear-visibility standard FMVSS 111. Losing the rear view raises the risk of a crash.

Dealers update the parking assist software at no charge.

NHTSA campaign 25V744000, reported 30 October 2025, about 1,024,407 vehicles across every brand in the campaign.

Air bags: side curtain air bags

Vehicles: Certain 2024 Lexus TX350, TX500 Hybrid and TX550 Hybrid+ vehicles; the campaign also covers 2024 Toyota Grand Highlander and Grand Highlander Hybrid vehicles.

The driver- and passenger-side curtain air bags may not unroll as designed and can partly deploy outside an open window, so the vehicles do not meet federal ejection-mitigation standard FMVSS 226. That reduces protection for occupants in a crash.

Dealers replace both curtain air bag assemblies at no charge.

NHTSA campaign 24V461000, reported 20 June 2024, about 145,254 vehicles across every brand in the campaign.

Back over prevention: rearview camera software

Vehicles: Certain 2022-2025 Lexus NX, 2023-2026 RX and 2024-2026 TX vehicles.

The rearview camera image may not appear when the vehicle is shifted into reverse, so the vehicles do not meet federal rear-visibility standard FMVSS 111. A missing rear view raises the risk of a crash.

Dealers update the rearview camera software or replace the camera as needed at no charge.

NHTSA campaign 26V162000, reported 18 March 2026, about 144,200 vehicles across every brand in the campaign.

Engine: internal mechanical parts (main bearings)

Vehicles: Certain 2022-2024 Lexus LX and 2024 GX vehicles with the V35A engine; the campaign also covers 2022-2024 Toyota Tundra vehicles. This campaign expands recall 24V-381.

Machining debris left from manufacturing can contaminate the engine and cause the main bearings to fail. A failed bearing can stall the engine and cut drive power, raising the risk of a crash.

Dealers check the number one main bearing using inspection software and driving data, and replace the engine if needed, at no charge.

Reading the rest of a Lexus VIN

Characters 4 to 8 describe the vehicle — model, body style, engine, restraint system. Lexus assigns that scheme itself and files it with NHTSA, which is why decoding requires a lookup rather than arithmetic. Character 9 is the check digit, character 10 is the model year, and character 11 is the assembly plant.

Where the VIN is on a Lexus

On the driver's side dashboard, readable through the windshield, and on a sticker in the driver's door jamb. The door jamb sticker usually carries a scannable barcode, which is more reliable than transcribing 17 characters by eye — the decoder can read it with your camera.
