Infiniti VIN decoder

Paste the 17-character VIN from your Infiniti SUV or sedan to see how Nissan registered it with NHTSA: model year, model, body style, engine, drivetrain and assembly plant, plus every safety recall NHTSA lists for that year and model. Free, no signup.

0/17

Enter all 17 characters. The decoder reads the make, model and year from the whole VIN, not just the first three characters.

Infiniti WMI codes

The first three characters of a VIN are the World Manufacturer Identifier. NHTSA lists 15 of them for Infiniti: each code below is one whose NHTSA record lists Infiniti as a make. All of these codes are registered to Nissan companies. Most are also listed for Nissan; 5N3, JNK, JNR, JNT and JNX are listed for Infiniti only. They were issued across 4 countries: Japan, Mexico, United Kingdom (UK) and United States (USA). A few carry no stated country. They span 4 vehicle types, listed separately below.

The country shown is where the identifier was issued, which usually but not always matches where a given vehicle was assembled. The eleventh character identifies the specific plant. A single WMI can cover more than one vehicle type, so some codes appear in more than one table.

Common Infiniti models

Some of the Infiniti models you are most likely to be decoding, as NHTSA spells them. Recall searches by year, make and model need that exact spelling.

Notable Infiniti recalls since 2018

A few of the largest or most serious recent safety recalls covering Infiniti vehicles. They are examples, not a complete list: a single model year can have a dozen campaigns. A recall on the model does not mean it is still open on a particular car, so check the VIN at NHTSA's recall lookup, or see every campaign for a year and model with our recall lookup.

Back-over prevention: rearview camera settings

Vehicles: Certain 2018-2019 Infiniti Q50, Q60, QX30 and QX80 and 2019 QX50, QX60, Q70 and Q70L vehicles; the campaign also covers many Nissan models.

The camera and display settings can be changed so the rearview image no longer shows, and the system keeps that setting the next time the car is put in reverse. NHTSA's record says these vehicles do not meet the federal rear visibility standard.

Dealers update the camera settings software at no charge.

NHTSA campaign 19V654000, reported 12 September 2019, about 1,228,830 vehicles across every brand in the campaign.

Engine: VC-Turbo engine bearings

Vehicles: Certain 2019-2022 Infiniti QX50 and 2022 QX55 vehicles with the variable compression turbo (VC-Turbo) engine; the campaign also covers Nissan Rogue and Altima models.

Manufacturing defects in the engine bearings can lead to engine failure. A failed bearing can also break through the engine block and release hot oil, raising the risk of a fire.

Dealers reprogram the engine control module software at no charge; owner letters were mailed 8 April 2026.

NHTSA campaign 25V437000, reported 27 June 2025, about 443,899 vehicles across every brand in the campaign.

Service brakes: anti-lock brake actuator leak

Vehicles: Certain 2017-2019 Infiniti QX60 vehicles; the campaign also covers the Nissan Murano, Maxima and Pathfinder.

The anti-lock brake actuator pump can leak brake fluid onto its circuit board, which can short and raise the risk of a fire.

Dealers replace the anti-lock brake actuator at no charge. If the ABS warning light stays on for more than 10 seconds after starting, owners are told to park outside, away from other vehicles and buildings, and not to drive it.

NHTSA campaign 19V807000, reported 8 November 2019, about 391,479 vehicles across every brand in the campaign.

Suspension: rear axle housing and steering knuckle

Vehicles: Certain 2020 Infiniti QX60 and 2021 QX50 and Q50 vehicles; the campaign also covers some Nissan Murano and GT-R models.

The front steering knuckle or rear axle housing may not have been heat-treated properly and can bend if the car hits something like a curb. That can cause a loss of steering control or a wheel separation, raising the risk of a crash.

Dealers inspect the parts and replace them as needed at no charge.

NHTSA campaign 21V402000, reported 27 May 2021, about 14,276 vehicles across every brand in the campaign.

Reading the rest of a Infiniti VIN

Characters 4 to 8 describe the vehicle — model, body style, engine, restraint system. Infiniti assigns that scheme itself and files it with NHTSA, which is why decoding requires a lookup rather than arithmetic. Character 9 is the check digit, character 10 is the model year, and character 11 is the assembly plant.

See how to read a VIN for the full breakdown, or model year codes for the position 10 table.

Where the VIN is on a Infiniti

On the driver's side dashboard, readable through the windshield, and on a sticker in the driver's door jamb. The door jamb sticker usually carries a scannable barcode, which is more reliable than transcribing 17 characters by eye — the decoder can read it with your camera.
